Our under 13boys got their league campaign off to a flyer with a great win over St. Columba’s on 16th November.
Missing Ben McTiernan and Marti Marti we changed the forward line with Jakob Heins coming in at centre forward, Cian Walley playing left wing and Hugh Hartnett at right wing. In centre midfield we had Captain and conductor of the orchestra Jake Nourse, left wing Louis Prehn from primary school and right mid. Jake Dempsey. At the back the ever improving Rod McCauliff at sweeper, centre back Mark Donovan who is a great man marker and at left back another primary boy Oisin Wynn and right back Michael Brennan. In Goals for the first half Daniel Sheerin and for the second half primary keeper Cian Brennan. On the bench Jonas, Edward, Filip, Reece and Nathan.
From the start we poured forward with Jake Nourse and Jake Dempsey and Louis Prehn dominating midfield.
Despite several chances we failed to score. After 9 minutes Cian Walley who had a cracking game won a ball swept it to Jakob Heins who scored to put us 1-0 up. Our back four were on top. Again after 13 minutes Jakob scored what could be the goal of the season when he played a one two with Hugh Hartnett and smashed a rocket od a shot home to put us 2-0 up.
In the second half back came St. Columba’s to score and reduce the score to 2-1. Rod and Hugh were in a battle and Cian made a great save to keep Columba’s at bay. With time running out we broke and Jakob ran from the half way line and swept the ball past the keeper to seal the win at 3-1. Well Done Boys!!
Final Score: St. Kilian’s 3, St. Columba’s 1
Man of the match: Cian Walley who made his debut at left wing and had a brill game.
