Our Minor Boys’ soccer team played Colaiste de Hide in their cup game and recorded an incredible 6-6 scoreline! The conditions for the game were testing, to say the least, as a gale blew and rainfall was torrential at times. However, both teams served up a great game.
Colaiste de Hide opened the scoring, shortly after Marti Marti Gomez had hit the crossbar with the game’s first effort. St Kilian’s responded to the opening strike when Hubert Rebow converted a corner into St Kilian’s first goal. Colaiste de Hide then scored twice without reply to race into a 3-1 lead.
They held this lead until shortly before halftime, when Hugo Heisterkamp scored from the edge of the box and Daniel Partridge equalised with a long range shot into the bottom corner. St Kilian’s opened the second half and Hugo added a second for himself when he sidestepped two defenders before delivering a low drive to the corner of the net. Colaiste de Hide rallied and parity was restored when they scored from a powerful free kick.
St Kilian’s then pressed forward again and Marti Marti Gomez made a mazy run from midfield before coolly sliding the ball past the advancing keeper to restore our lead. However, Colaiste de Hide came back again to level the scores when they scored from a corner. Hugo Heisterkamp was giving the opposing defence a tough time and he received the ball with his back to goal, before turning, holding off the defender and smashing an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net.
The score stood at 6-5 to St Kilians at this stage but, in a dramatic final twist to the game, Colaiste de Hide equalised yet again, with a freekick in the dying minutes.
The replay will do well to deliver such an epic encounter………….!!
