Our Minor Boys led by Captain Traloch Butler and Vice Captain Tristan Molphy led their team with distinction in the minor A final today against Wesley.
The line-up: In goals Dermot Gleeson, right back Michael Brennan, left back Mark Donovan, centre back Arthur Simms and sweeper Rod McAuliff. In right mid Tristan Molphy, centre mid. Traloch Butler and left mid Jake Nourse. Up front on the right Robin Macarulay, centre forward Ben Mc Tiernan and left wing Jonathon Heins. On the bench Cian Walley, Alexandros Tritsch, Darragh Ryan Cahill and Jake Dempsey.
For the first 10 minutes both sides were evenly matched and probing for an opening. Our back four started to come under pressure and Wesley scored twice to go 2-0 up at the break. In the second half we created a couple of half chances. Wesley had us under fierce pressure and scored to go 3-0 up. Dermot Gleeson made a couple of great saves to deny Wesley and keep us from conceding another goal. We lifted our game and went searching for a consolation goal but could not break down the Wesley rear guard. We were beaten by a fine Wesley team who just outplayed us on the day.
Final score: Wesley 3, St. Kilian’s 0
Mervyn and I are very proud of our minor boys who went unbeaten up to the final. They gave their all on the day and have made history being our first minor team in an A final. With four first years in the team it was a great achievement. The team are in the quarter final of the cup so onwards and upwards.
Man of the match: Two players share the award: Michael Brennan at right back and Mark Donovan at left back. Both played exceptionally well today.
Finally
Thanks to our teachers and pupils who came to support us on the day. Also thanks to our wonderful Parents who have supported the Minor Boys all season. Another step nearer in our search for an A league title. The search goes on!
