The boys U19 team played a pulsating quarter final against St Kevin's, after defeating New Ross CBS in the previous round by 5-2The game against St Kevin’s was played on the SDFL astro pitch and the opening chance fell to St Kilian’s when Cathal Kelly clipped the post after a cross from Liam Ryan. Ethan Levins opened the scoring midway through the half when he raced onto a through ball from Oscar Carruthers to finish calmly to the net. The single goal lead was doubled midway through the second half when a St Kevin’s defender clumsily felled Hugo Heisterkamp and Ethan made no mistake from the spot. St Kevin’s increased the pressure on our defence and made the breakthrough with 15 minutes remaining. They added a second in the last few minutes to take the game to extra time.
St Kilian’s found their second wind and were unfortunate to see Liam Ryan’s volley strike the crossbar whilst at the other end, Adrian Jesoniek was called upon to make a spectacular diving save in the closing minutes. The stalemate continued to the conclusion of the additional period and the dreaded penalty shoot faced both teams. Unfortunately, the St Kevin’s keeper managed to save one and another of our spotkicks struck the crossbar, whilst Adrian could only save one of their penalties and we exited in the end.
