Match Report
The U19s lost narrowly to Oatlands in the League semi-final. St Kilian’s took an early lead when Ethan Levins broke forward, past the opposing right back and drilled his shot into the bottom corner past a helpless Oatlands keeper. Unfortunately, the lead was to prove a short-lived one as Oatlands scored from a corner to level the sides.
St Kilian’s regained the advantage after good midfield work from Louis Murphy, Oscar Carruthers and Ruadhan Geary resulted in Ethan breaking forward again and he repeated his goalscoring feat from earlier in the half. Unfortunately, as halftime approached, Oatlands broke the St Kilian’s defensive line to equalise again. St Kilian’s responded swiftly great work by Cian Van der Voort dispossessed their defender in the centre circle and his pinpoint pass found Marc Garrigos, who’s first touch set him up for a composed finish to the bottom corner with his second.
The second half saw St Kilian’s press for another score to increase their lead and went close on a number of occasions. However, disaster struck when a long, hopeful clearance from an Oatlands defender found it’s way in behind our defensive line and their player finished well to restore parity.
The clock was ticking down and we were three minutes into injury time when further disaster struck – a shot by an Oatlands defender struck one of our players and landed to an opponent in an offside position to finish to the net ( as it struck a St Kilian’s player, the offside aspect didn’t matter, unfortunately! ). Despite our best efforts in the remaining three minutes of injury time, we weren’t able to find the elusive breakthrough to take the game to extra time.
