On November 9th it is 30 years since the Berlin Wall fell. To mark this crucial moment in the history of Germany, St Kilian’s German and History Departments are running projects which are open to all our Secondary Schools students: we encourage them to engage with these throughout September and October.
A | Photograph of the Week
Every week, starting on Monday 9th September, we will publish (both online and in school) a photograph from the post-World War II era with questions and notes for students to think about and discuss.
On Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th November there will be a film viewing and quiz based on the pictures and questions. All students are encouraged to take part and be in with a chance to win a fantastic prize for their class.

Who can participate?
7th-12th class students, either individually or in small groups (up to 6).
What do you need to do?
You can choose between the following tasks (or you can enter more than one, if you wish):
1. History: Conduct an interview with one or more people (grandparents, parents, staff member, neighbour etc.) about their life in East Germany and how they experienced the fall of the Berlin Wall.
2. Write something about “Freedom” or “Fall of the Wall”. This can be a poem, script, short story, etc. The topic can also be interpreted more freely.
3. Get creative on the topics of “Freedom” or “Fall of the Wall”. For example you can take photographs and create a photo story or paint / draw / create a collage etc. – there is no limit to your creativity!
Prize:
Cinema coupon with popcorn and drink; the best contributions will be published.
Submissions can be in German or English.
Deadline: 4th November 2019, 4 p.m.
