Match Report
Fourth league win in four years for Junior boysSt Kilian’s retained their Junior B league title with a hard fought 1-0 win over Newpark at a windy Wesley College. Newpark started the brighter and forced a couple of circle entries before St Kilian’s started to grow into the game.
Midway through the first half some great work down the right by Jake Dempsey led to Thomas O’Grady finding a Newpark foot in the circle for the first corner of the game. From it, Ben McTiernan’s effort was deflected home by Dempsey for a 1-0 lead which lasted through to halftime.
Into the second half, Newpark had the lions share of possession, winning a corner which went unconverted but otherwise didn’t manage to break through a stubborn St Kilian’s defensive effort. With St Kilian’s mainly playing on the break, McTiernan won another corner and hit the outside of the post as the game became stretched and scrappy towards the end with St Kilians seeing out the 1-0 win.
