Senior boys
The boys’ numbers started picking up after the midterm break, with a few more players taking up hockey. This has made the senior boys’ team more competitive in matches. They have played 3 matches and all the matches have been tightly contested. Although they have lost three of the league matches, the boys are still in high spirits in search of their first victory this year. Results: Sandford Park: 5-0 (loss), Mount Temple: 3-1 (loss), High School: 2-1 (loss)
Junior boys
The junior boys have played three league games after the midterm break. They played Wesley College B team. This match was evenly matched with St. Kilian’s having more chances to get the first goal. Late in the second half Wesley scored 2 quick goals with the match finishing in 2-0 to Wesley. Their second match has against Mount Temple, both teams scored early goals, and late in the first half Mount temple score to make it 2-1. The boys couldn’t find an equalising goal in the second half and the match finished 2-1 to Mount Temple. St. Kilian’s then travelled to St. Andrew’s College for their third match, on the day St. Andrew’s were just too strong for us with the match ending in a 5-0 defeat.
Minor boys
Minor boys played two games after the break as their third match was postponed due to frozen field. Their first match was away against Newpark. Newpark went a goal up early in the match, but the boys stayed calm which allowed them to snatch an equalising goal a few minutes before half time. The second half the boys scored 2 goals to end the match 3-1 to St. Killian’s. Their second match was against Temple Carrig. The boys didn’t have their best game and Temple Carrig capitalised on their chances. The match ended in a 3-0 defeat away from home.
U13 boys
After the midterm, the u13 boys started their 11 aside league and have played 2 league matches so far. Their first match was against St. Columba’s College away from home. They played really well, managing to score 5 goals and the match ended with a 5-0 win for St. Kilian’s. Their second match was against St. Andrew’s College B. The boys started the match well, managing to score 2 quick goals. They then scored a third goal in the second half. St. Andrews then replied with a goal and a few minutes later they added their second for the match. St. Kilian’s regrouped and scored a fourth goal. The final score was 4-2 to St. Kilian’s.
Senior girls
The senior girls have played two league matches after the midterm break. They played Our Lady’s Grove at home in their second league match this season. The girls were very dominant from the start of the match, but with Our Lady’s Grove defended well, but the girls managed to score both their goals in the second half. The last five minutes, the girls conceded a goal and had to see the game out with Our Lady’s pushing hard for an equaliser. The girls held on and won the match 2-1. St. Kilian’s then hosted East Glendalough, where both teams had chances to take the lead of the match, but the match stayed level for the whole of the first half and the majority of the second half. St. Kilian’s then broke the deadlock with 3 minutes to go winning the match 1-0.
Junior girls
The junior girls have played 1 league match and 1 cup match after the midterm break. The league match was against Loreto Bray who were the better team on the day, the girls lost this match 4-0 away from home. In their cup match they played Wilsons Hospital. The match was a hard fought one with Wilsons going up early in the match. The girls fought to the end to get an equaliser but unfortunately couldn’t get a goal back. St. Kilian’s lost 1-0.
Minor girls
After the midterm break the minor girls played 3 matches. Their first match was against Mount Anville. The girls played really well but they just couldn’t convert their chances on the day. Mount Anville managed to convert their chances scoring 3-0, but the result doesn’t justify how the girls played. The second match was against St. Gerard’s away from home, the match ended in a 2-0 defeat. They then played Santa Sabina, and the two teams were evenly matched. The result could go either way. The match ended 0-0 draw, which was a fair result. The girls still have to play a cup match vs Sutton after Christmas which they should be really excited for.
1st year girls
The 1st year girls have played 4 matches, managing to win two of them and losing the other two. This group of girls are enthusiastic and full of energy, and it shows in their result this year. After Christmas they start their 11 aside league which I’m sure they will do well in.
Primary hockey
Both 5th/6th girls and boys have started with their league. They both played on league match each so far. The girls played Divine Word in their first match; it was a hard-fought match by the girls but at the end Divine Word secured a 2-0 victory. The boys played O’Kill the Grange in their first match, they went down 3-2 after putting up very strong performance. After Christmas their league matches resume and the primary school teams will be looking to finish of the season well.
