Our athletes from St. Kilian’s and the LFI had two fun days out at the East Leinster Track and Field Championships 2024 on April 29th and May 1st at UCD. Well done to all involved and congratulations on outstanding performances. Oisin (11A) won bronze in the shot put, Léna (11B) secured Silver in the long jump and Sophie (8C) Bronze in the 200 meters. The junior girls relay team finished 4th in the final, narrowly missing a podium finish. Another too narrowly miss out was Louis (7D,LFI), who was also 4th in his first ever 800 meters, going from 9th to 4th in the final lap. For the squad of 20, valuable experience was gained and our motto of the first day ‘Win or Learn’ was well embraced.
The second day was no different with more fantastic performances from our athletes. Léna (11B) got Bronze in the senior 400-meter girls and Oisin (11A) secured Gold in the shot put with a personal best of 12.66 meters. He also took Silver in the triple jump. Matthias (7D) put on a gutsy display to win his heat of the 500 meters and took Bronze overall for his efforts. Johann (9B) and Andrew Gillart (9C) couldn’t be separated in their 1500 meters, running side by side throughout. The teamwork paid off as they were both rewarded with new personal bests of 4:40. Smashing two days of athletics and our very young squad did the school proud, both on the track and off. A big thank you to Coach Dave Bradshaw and well done to all!
