Having completed 62 games through out the primary and secondary school, bringing the first half of the season to an end, it gives time to reflect on how the season is going so far and it is really encouraging. This is because most of our teams are doing well in their respective leagues.
Secondary School:
Our 1st year girls came first in their 8-aside league staying unbeaten in all their games. This allowed them to go through to the league quarter finals where they faced a particularly good Sutton Park team. The girls gave it their all and played very well, creating many chances to win the game but just came short this time. This was their first loss of the season, with the game ending 2-1 to Sutton Park. 1st year girls will start their 11- aside league after the Christmas break. Our minor girls are still unbeaten this season both in league and the cup, making it to the second round of the cup. It is great to see the confidence that the girls are playing with. Senior girls had a slow start to the season losing games at the start of the season. After the midterm break, they have bounced back with a big win against St. Joseph’s. Drogheda Grammar hosted the next match. That match was off to a good start but in the second half Drogheda took their chances and won. They then played Our Lady’s grove in the cup. It was a remarkably close match, and the score was 2-2 with five minutes to go. The girls kept pushing to the very end and they were rewarded with the winning goal with 10 seconds left securing a place in the quarter final.
1st year boys started their 11-aside league after the midterm break and have played 3 games so far. Winning one and two draws as they are still getting used to playing full field matches. There is still a long way to go in the league and I am excited to see what these boys can achieve this year. Our minor boys are playing in the 1st division, and they play against some of the best schools in Leinster. The boys have held their own. They managed to win one game and competed well in the other games, just being unlucky to get at least a point. The results have not been on our side in this league but the growth our players are showing is brilliant. Junior boys have lost one game in the second division this season which has been a solid campaign for them. Hopefully, they can carry on their great form after the Christmas break.
Primary School:
After the midterm, primary boys and girls Hockey matches resumed. The girls have played one match so far in their league, and they are off to a good start. They won a very entertaining match ending 4-0 against Wesley College. The girls still have more games to come and will be looking to building on their good start to the season. Our two boys’ teams have played two games each. The boys’ 2nd team has come short in both their games. Their performances have been encouraging in a tough league. The boys’ 1st team won their first game and just came short in the second game going down 2-1 to a good team. It has not been a bad start to the season. Some of our primary boys have played a few matches for the 1st year team in the Secondary School and have held their own which highlights the talent we have in the school, as we continue to build.
