First Holy Communion & Confirmation
One period of Religion/Ethics per week is timetabled for each class in Primary School. Children making their First Holy Communion form a separate group within the class and preparation begins in 1st class and continues through to the end of 2nd class. The programme is a joint school/parish one, with the priest visiting the school on occasion and the children attending dedicated masses with their parents throughout second class in particular. The celebration of First Holy Communion takes place in our local parish church, the Church of the Miraculous Medal on Bird Avenue (Clonskeagh Parish), usually during the month of May.
Preparation for Confirmation for Roman Catholic pupils is also a two year, joint programme between St. Kilian’s and Clonskeagh Parish. Preparation begins in 5th class and continues through to the end of 6th. . This ceremony also takes place in the Church of the Miraculous Medal, occasionally with students from the parish school. Confirmation usually takes place during the month of May but the date is dependent on the availability of the Archbishop. In recent years Archbishop Diarmuid Martin has been our celebrant and it is always a very special occasion for the children and parents involved.
After the Communion and Confirmation, all pupils and their families are invited back to the school for refreshments.
