Jugend musiziert
Jugend musiziert is a nationwide competition for young musicians in Germany and in German Schools Abroad and is under the patronage of the President of Germany. The competition is divided into different stages of which the final stage is the national final (Bundeswettbewerb), which is hosted by a different German city every year. At this stage approx. 20,000 young competitors who show their skills in round one have been whittled down to about 2,000, with the prize winners usually performing at an incredibly high standard and the very best being rewarded with prestigious awards or scholarships.
St. Kilian’s has been involved in Jugend musiziert since 1997, when the competition was initiated at the school by Primary School teacher Barbara Davitt. Those students who excel at the first round held at our school in January every year are sent forward to the city hosting the second round, which can be any Northern or Eastern European capital.
Eligible for entry are all pupils of St. Kilian’s, the Eurocampus and external students living in Ireland holding a German passport or having one German parent. For further questions and enquiries please contact the co-ordinator of the competition Ms Noelle Brennan.
A successful offspring of Jugend musiziert is Kinder musizieren. This is a much less regulated and smaller-scale competition for younger children to show off their talents and vocal category of their choice. For enquiries about the Kinder musizieren competition, please contact the co-ordinator Ms Anne Thielemans.
