“We moved to Dublin from Germany 10 years ago. My oldest son was 15 at the time and my youngest son 8. They both felt right at home at St Kilian’s – both equally even though they both were at different points in their education, Transition Year and 3rd class. I am grateful to the school for the education and the environment they have provided to both my kids. Philipp graduated in 2011 and has since graduated with ease and high marks from Trinity College and King’s College (Bachelor of Law and Masters in Intellectual Property) and is now training for Solicitor in one of the top 5 law firms in Dublin. He also found friends for life at St Kilian’s and is still in close contact with his friends from school. In Germany he always separated between friends from tennis and friends from school! Not here. Felix did not speak English when we moved here, still he did not struggle for a minute. It was a pleasure to observe how he developed to a young man, someone who cares about the world they live in, a critical thinker and a very creative person (Art was tough work but he learned a lot and developed amazing creativity). Also I had the pleasure to observe several student groups from St Kilian’s as participants of the Lego League (I have been a project judge Lead from SAP at the Lego League for the past 8 years) and have been amazed by the St Kilian’s groups each year. I value the teachers’ engagement.

“When we moved to Dublin from Switzerland five years ago, one big obvious question was finding the best suitable school for both our children, especially as ours is a bilingual family. When we found out about St. Kilian’s German School and visited it for the first time, it was love at first sight for our children! We as parents were very impressed as well and found our worry about their schooling dissipate. We experienced a warm welcome from staff and other families at St Kilian’s. Our children immediately felt included, and their integration became a natural progression. In our opinion, St. Kilian’s offers an equally high standard of education in both German and English. For a family like ours, there could be no better school; where both languages are taught at that level under one roof. The German teachers are all native German speakers and the Irish teachers work closely with the German teachers to make the learning as smooth as possible for the students. Through the sports teams and various other projects, friendships are made and strengthened across races, school classes and social backgrounds. Being parents at St. Kilian’s Primary School for the last two years, we feel strongly that the school offers our son (class 2) the suitable framework to explore and define his own binational (German-Irish) heritage and identity, and helps to stimulate and strenghthen his development in both languages. It is amazing to see him literate to such an equal degree in both his languages. The encounter with various subject teachers each day has led to a great independence on his behalf. Multiple teaching styles, differing personalities and diverse approaches create a stimulating and challenging learning environment for him. The positive learning experience in St. Kilian’s is further enhanced by the importance of music in the primary school. “Both our children (Emma and Christopher) attended St. Killian’s from primary school right through to leaving certificate. They have both now left the school as well rounded high achieving young adults and that is due to their wonderful experience of their schooling and education at Kilian’s. “Looking back on the time spent in St Kilian’s German School brings forth many nice and fun memories. I truly enjoyed my three years of education here and must acknowledge the amount of time invested by teachers in their students. You wouldn’t find this kind of pupil– teacher interaction in many other schools. My favourite subjects at the time were art and geography. Some of the highlights I recall were the school concerts, the art trip to Paris and the many other fieldtrips we were taken on. During Transition Year St Kilian’s works with students on their weakest areas in subjects. Furthermore they teach cookery, woodworks, arts and crafts and prepare the students for their Driving Test. The entire process of Transition Year is of great importance, as students get to research different fields of interest, discover new strengths and are encouraged to transform into young adults. The adventure trip in Kerry teaches significant survival and teamwork skills and creates a wonderful strong bond amongst classmates. Needless to say, many things learned, accompanied me through my studies at University College Dublin, various multi-lingual jobs, employment at the States Examinations Commission (German Department) and my travels in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.”
