Senior Boys Sink Columba’s to Reach League Semi-FinalsOur senior boys led by Captain Tom Simms had an excellent 4/0 win over St. Columba’s to reach the B league semi-finals.
From the start our boys went on the attack led by our midfield trio Sam Staunton, Ben McTiernan and Robin Macarulay calling the shots and setting up chances. Up front Louis Murphy, Denis Popov and Hugo Heisterkamp were closing down Columba’s and creating chances. Our back four Michael Brennan, the brothers Simms Tom and Arthur and Mark Donovan were rock solid. In goals Eoin Brennan had a solid game making some fine saves to deny Columba’s. After 7 minutes we scored when Denis picked up a rebound and struck it home into the right corner to put us a deserved 1-0 up.
We were on top and after 14 minutes we got our second from a sweeping movement from inside our 22. Michael played a ball to Robin who flicked it on to Louis who played it inside the circle to Robin who swept home to put us 2-0 up. Columba’s fought to the break but our defending was excellent. Our forwards and our midfield racing back to support our back four.
Half Time: 2-0 to Kilian’s.
From the start of the second half Columba’s were on the front foot forcing several short corners but we defended well. They were well on top for periods of the half. With ten minutes to go we upped our game and we hit them on the break when Sam won a ball fed Michel who raced into the 22 and smashed a ball across the circle which Louis Murphy deflected into the goal to put us 3-0 up. After 25 minutes we won a short corner. Ben McTiernan smashed the ball goal wards and Louis nipped in to deflect it home and seal the game for St. Kilian’s.
A great win built on a terrific work rate allied to some brill hockey and great defending. Well done boys! We now look forward to the B league semi-final. Andrew Tutty has the boys firing on all cylinders!
Man of the Match: Two boys share the honor: Ben McTiernan who was all action defending and attacking today and Louis Murphy for his silken skills in the circle. The rest of the team were not far behind.
Goal of the Match: Robin’s finish to a superb team effort. Contender for goal of the season.
