Well done to all students who get involved in extracurricular sports and represent St. Kilian’s on the various teams. Here is a short update on the achievements of our soccer and hockey teams:
In soccer, our U19 Girls’ team got through to the Leinster Cup final. U15 and U17 Girls will compete in their respective Leinster Cup semi finals in the New Year; U15s will also play in the League quarter finals. The Senior Boys’ team beat Oatlands to secure their place in the league final. U19 Boys’ teams played a pulsating quarter final against St. Kevin’s but unfortunately lost out on penalties in the end. Junior boys lost in the last minute of the match vs St Aidan’s in 17s cup quarter final. They now face a league quarter final early in the New Year.
In hockey, all girls’ teams have started their league campaign. Our 1st year girls got off to a positive start with a 2-1 win in their first league game, following some excellent performance in friendlies. They can look forward to more games post-Christmas. Both the Minor and Senior team have had a mixed bag of results in the first number of games, notching up some wins and loses along the way. There is still all to play for in the league for both teams with only 3 games played each. In the Cup, the Senior Girls’ team were knocked out in the 1st round of the cup by a very strong Notre Dame team. Our Minor team had an excellent 2-1 win vs Rathdown in the first round of the cup but unfortunately came up short against Our Lady’s team. Among the boys’ teams the Minor boys are leading the way and are second in the league to date. They did us proud in a fantastic game vs St. Andrew’s. They can make the A semi-finals if they keep winning. The Junior and U13 Boys have a chance to make the B league semi finals. The cup starts in January.
