Die Leiterin der Fachschaft Sport in unserer Grundschule, Siobhan Collins, spielte vor Kurzem im Masters Hockey World Cup in Barcelona und erzählt uns von ihrem unvergesslichen Erlebnis:
“The Masters Hockey World Cup took place from 27th July – 5th August 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. There was a Men’s and Women’s competition with over 2,400 competitors in total. We played 7 matches in 8 days and most were played in 35 degrees or more.
I had the privilege of playing with the Irish Ladies 40’s team. We had a very tough group playing Holland, Germany & Scotland. We started well with a draw against the Dutch, then beat the Scotts but unfortunately lost to the Germans, against the run of play, and lost 3 players from the squad to injury in the process. This put us into the play-offs for the quarter final where we played New Zealand and beat them 1-0. We then played the Dutch again in the quarter finals but lost 2-0.
We were now playing for 5th – 8th spot! Next up were Spain, we played a great game beating them 4-0 so were now playing for 5th/6th place & it was against the Germans again. We had a bad start leaking 2 goals in the first 5 minutes and despite hitting the post and crossbar just couldn’t get back into the game.
We finished in a credible 6th place but more importantly we had a wonderful experience and made many new friends from all over the world. Sport really can bring people from all walks of life and cultures together, all with the same focus and goal – enjoyment!
A big thank you to St Kilian’s Deutsche Schule for being one of our sponsors & helping us on our journey.
An experience of a life time!”
