Overview
St. Kilian’s Primary and Kindergarten welcomes children aged 4 to 12 years and covers Kindergarten (Junior Infants), Vorschule (Senior Infants) and Primary School from 1st to 6th class.
Kindergarten and Vorschule children are mixed in classes, as would be the norm in Germany. In Primary School the Irish Primary School Curriculum (DoE) with the exception, initially, of the Irish language is taught.
Starting on the first day of school at the age of four, St. Kilian’s pupils learn German; however, prior knowledge of German is not a requirement. Having started with German as their first foreign language, the children will learn Irish from 3rd and optionally French from 6th class.
In addition to their class teacher, children have subject teachers in Primary School. Depending on their German results by the end of 4th class, children may qualify for the additional German Curricular Stream from 5th class or alternatively continue with the Irish curriculum only. PE is a core subject in Primary school and is taught on a daily basis in 1st-4th Class; in 5th and 6th class children have 3 periods of PE.
The school offers After School Care from Kindergarten to to 6th class until 5.00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
St. Kilian’s is a multinational and interdenominational school and we aim to ensure that our classes include an even mix of children regarding sex, German mother and foreign tongue as well as nationality. Our German and Irish roots are important to us and we celebrate both cultures throughout the whole school year.
Our aim is for our students to be happy, confident Europeans with a love of learning.
