Our Minor Boys did us proud as they are our first Minor team to play in the All-Ireland Waring cup. The Waring cup is for those teams who reach the cup finals in Leinster, Munster, and Ulster. What a day out they gave us, winning one, drawing three and only one loss. They only conceded 3 goals in five games. The team led by Captain fantastic Jake Nourse were resplendent in their new hockey kit and did themselves, their families, and their school proud. They have put St. Kilian’s on the hockey map.
Our first game was against St. Andrew’s and it ended 0-0, a great start for us. Louis Prehn, our 1st year, was sensational at left back in this game. The second game we won 3-0 and Cai Bocus got 2 crackers. Our third game we lost 1-0 and then we drew our next game 1-1 in a thriller with Middleton. Our last game was another exciting game with Daniel Sheeran making some world class saves to keep the score at 0-0.
The boys gave their all and with a bit more luck could have won the tournament as all the games could have gone either way.
Player of the tournament: Daniel Sheeran who was sensational in goals. So good was he on the day, that an Irish International who played in the Olympics came over to congratulate Daniel and told him he saw him make seven or eight world class saves.
Sincere thanks to Miss Shelley for all her help and advise on the day. Thanks to Dan Rees who was a brilliant coach on the day and had the lads all fired up for each game.
