Twenty five students from St. Kilian’s attended two Premiership games last weekend, accompanied by six members of staff. After an early start ( 6-15am ), the group travelled by ferry and coach to Villa Park, home of Aston Villa, who hosted Manchester United on Saturday evening. The game proved highly entertaining, with Aston Villa racing into a two goal lead before Manchester United provided proof of their champions potential by coming back to win 3-2. We were seated in the North Stand and were fortunate enough to see four of the game’s five goals scored into the goal at our end, with Javier Hernandez outdoing Robin Van Persie & Wayne Rooney in the goalscoring stake
After an overnight stay at Jurys Inn in Birmingham, it was another early start for the journey to Manchester. The impressive Ethiad Stadium was the venue as Manchester City welcomed Tottenham Hotspur for a top four clash, with Gareth Bale & Carlos Tevez the star attractions on show. Spurs took a first half lead and were looking likely winners until Manchester City scored two late goals to show that they will defend their Premiership title with vigour this season.
Our group then made their way back to Holyhead for the return crossing by ferry to the school, having witnessed two great games and eight goals in total, not to mention numerous near-misses. During the trip, various competitions were held and the lucky winners were – Clodagh Scott, Kieran Spellman-Molphy, Robbie O’Leary, Mathias Ponte, Max Traem, Marlene Komes, Cilian Purser & Finian Weltecke.
