This year the green school committee has once again been actively working towards attaining the second green flag for energy efficiency. The primary school and secondary school committees have grown considerably in size since last year with a lot of new dedicated members. In addition, the sixiéme class of the Lycee Francais have also formed a Green school committee. All three committees each meet once a week and are working together to promote energy awareness throughout the campus.
At the beginning of the year, the committees set to work on reviewing ways of conserving energy in the school. They carried out light audits, appliance audits, measured room temperatures and read the electricity and gas meters throughout the school to pinpoint problem areas. Resulting from these, students brainstormed ways of raising awareness about energy conservation and have been busy implementing these over the year. They have spoken to teachers and students and have been working hard to encourage everyone to actively save energy by turning down thermostats on heaters, turning off lights and powering off appliances.
