Future Leaders! Congratulations to transition year students, Norbert Rebow, Molly Flynn and Henry Kissouny, finalists in the Senate student challenge, who were given the opportunity to offer a question to the Leader of the Senate, on the basis of the speeches they wrote on the topic of the Leaving Cert.
The 30 finalists, chosen from all over the country were joined in the Senate by Minister of Education, Ruari Quinn, and Minister for Children, Frances Fitzgerald, who commended the students for their essays, speeches and questions which, they said, demonstrated their engagement with societal issues of concern and the Ireland of the future. Senator Ivanna Bacik, Deputy leader of the House responded to student questions and David Norris also addressed the students, pointing out to them that the government point of view is not the only viewpoint offered by the Senate. After the sitting, the students were invited to lunch in the Members restaurant by the Ceann Comhairle where they were presented with certificates of excellence and a DVD of the sitting of the student senate session. Norbert was later interviewed by RTE for the News at 9pm and Politics on Sunday program. Don’t miss it!
