Isn’t it fantastic? There were three debating competitions this week and all were won by St. Kilian’s students from Secondary School.

Congratulations to Kate Chambers and William Worrall of 11th class who are now through to the quarterfinals of the Leinster Debates organised by Trinity College. Last night they successfully proposed the motion that this house would prosecute those accused of domestic violence without the consent of the victim.

Concern Debating
Congratulations to the 11th class Concern Debating team who have now won all their league debates in the competition. Last night they successfully opposed the motion that “The multinationals are cleaning up their act” against Colaiste Iosagain. Well done to Norbert Rebow (captain), Finn Schönfeld, Catey Clarkson and Molly Flynn who were assisted by Anna Heisterkamp and Eric Prehn, researchers!

German Debating Competition
On Wednesday, 22nd January, St. Kilian’s Senior German Debating team beat off the challenge of King’s Hospital to advance to the Quarter Finals of the German National Debating Competition. The motion was: “Ein Nebenjob und Erfolg in der Schule sind unvereinbar” (“A part-time job is incompatible with success in school”). Kilian’s was contra the motion. Team members were: Kate Chambers (Captain), Comhall Fanning, Hugo Warner and Wills Warren. Coach Fiona Maher, Co-coach Lisa Kiechle (internship student).
