Congratulations to 11th class students, Norbert Rebow, Comhall Fanning and Finn Schönfeld on being declared runners-up in the Model Council of the European Union Debate for secondary schools. The day-long event was organised by the European Commission Representation in Ireland and was opened in Dublin Castle by Minister of State for European Affairs, Pascal Donohue. Opening speeches were also given by the Greek Ambassador to Ireland and Head of the Irish Commission, Barbara Nolan.
Thirty schools were chosen from all over Ireland to debate a European Parliament Directive on the use of high volume hydraulic fracturing throughout the EU. The debate was won by Loreto Kilkenny and St. Kilian’s were declared runners-up for the consistency of their argument, pertinent interventions and fine summing up of the debate. They received Samsung mobile phones from the Commission and beautiful volume on Greek painting from the ambassador.
They were worthy ambassadors of St. Kilian’s! Well done on a terrific achievement!
Norbert Rebow has been also nominated as delegate to the National final of the EYP – European Youth Parliament – competition. We wish him luck in the final round!
