Congratulations to the Green school committee who recently won first prize in their category (Junior, water) at the all Ireland final of the Eco-Unesco Young Environmentalists Awards in the Mansion House on Tuesday 20th May.
Six members of the group pitched their project before a judging panel last March and were chosen to advance to the final show case. With the project “Where have all the fish gone?”, the green school students helped to shine a spotlight on the issue of overfishing. They conducted research, ran a survey amongst teachers and parents, held an information stand and spoke to members of the general public at the annual Christmas fair in the school. Students also wrote articles on overfishing for the school magazine, created eye-catching posters and produced a short stop motion film, all with the aim of encouraging others to question where their seafood comes from, to buy sustainable seafood and to help protect our oceans.
