“Jugend Musiziert (Jumu)” is a competition for instrumental or vocal young musicians organised by the Deutscher Musikrat in Munich, Germany. It is the biggest musical competition that motivates thousands of young non-professional musicians to achieve extraordinary standards in music. Organised over three rounds it allows students to compete in a number of categories from classical to pop and pitch their talent against that of students from various music schools in Germany. Besides the competition itself young people are given the opportunity to meet and to interact with other young people and master new challenges.
The “Kinder musizieren” and “Jugend musiziert” in Dublin is organised by Frau Barbara Davitt and Mr. Daithi O’Driscoll who also organise participation for our students in further rounds abroad. The German school in Dublin is one of 17 Schools in the North-East Europe region. One of these school agrees to host the 2nd round every year. Students from St. Kilian’s and Eurocampus have enjoyed enormous success over the years in this competition, as students from German schools abroad are also allowed to participate.
On Thursday, 22nd and on Friday, 23rd of January 2015 St. Kilian’s German School Dublin has hosted the Kinder Musizieren competition and the 1st round (Regionalwettbewerb) of the Jumu competition. Each musician was asked to play in front of a professional jury and they are assessed according to special age requirements.
We are delighted to announce that a considerable number of our students have received first prize and thus qualified for the 2nd round (Landeswettbewerb) in Paris in March 2015. Congratulations to all participants! All well done!
We would also like to say a big Thank you to Frau Barbara Davitt for all her great work over the past
16 years. The Jumu competition is now one of the most significant and major events in St. Kilian’s.
This year’s Kimu and Jumu events were the last competitions organised by Frau Barbara Davitt. Next year Ms. Anne Thielemans for Jumu and Mr. Daithi O’Driscoll for Kimu will take over. We wish both the very best of luck and are looking forward to more Kimu and Jumu competitions in the next years.
On Friday evening we also hosted our annual Kimu and Jumu concert. It was a great success and the audiences were highly impressed by our musical talents on stage. See more images in the gallery.
Congratulations to the following students who qualified for the 2nd round in Paris in March.
