Camilla Tunney, Green School officer for DLRDCC/An Taisce visited our school this morning for the official (symbolic) raising of our third Green Flag, which we were awarded last year on the ‘Water’ theme – a great achievement by the Green School Committee who put a huge effort into this project.
Sophie Linnane, Joanna Harnett and Lia Taylor Schaffer gave an interesting presentation about the Green School and their activities to highlight its purpose and importance, to raise awareness and to encourage more students in both the Primary and Secondary Schools to get involved.
As part of the Green School’s current work towards the fourth Green Flag on the topic of ‘Travel’, some members of the Green School committee presented the findings of their recent research on how students travel to school every day: figures show that currently about 50% of our students travel to school by car and over 30% travel by either bicycle or walk. These are overall very good statistics, considering that as a German School we have a very wide catchment area and some students travel from as far as Brittas and Donabate every day!
After the ceremony, Ms Tunney stayed in the school to give workshops to 7th class on bicycle safety/maintenance.
