It was a windy day out in Peamount for the Leinster U19 Final on 17th May 2016. Loreto Crumlin won the toss and opted to play with the wind in the first half. This made the first half a real challenge for our team playing against a talented Loreto Crumlin side. We told the girls that 0-0 would be a good result in the first half.
As expected, Loreto started off the stronger team and had one great effort from about 25yards out saved by Sandra in goal. It was a magnificent save that tipped over the bar to keep us in the game. Our girls kept their organised shape and limited Loreto to chances outside the box. Soon after Nina Heisterkamp made a dashing run in to the box and was fouled just on the edge to give St Kilian’s a free kick in a very dangerous area. Ellen put in a great ball which was met by Rhiannon O’Connor on the half volley to give us a 1-0 lead. Nina and Ellen’s pace and quality were a constant threat to Loreto’s defence as we hit them on the counter attack. The first half finished 1-0 to St. Kilian’s.
The second half was quite even and Loreto were really up for it. There were chances at both ends. Hamicie had St. Kilian’s best chance in the second half, her pace and a good ball over the top put her in 1v1 with the Loreto Goalkeeper who made a fantastic save to keep them in the game. Loreto put pressure on St. Kilian’s towards the end of the game. There was no real clear cut chances but they looked dangerous with a couple of real quality players.
In the last minute of the game, there was a pass back to the Loreto goalkeeper, this was brilliantly anticipated by Hamicie who pressed the keeper and scored our second goal to take the Leinster title.
