In the week from 9th to 16th of March 2016, 32 exchange students from Siebold Gymnasium in Würzburg, Germany, visited St. Kilian’s and spent a week living with the family of their Irish counterparts.
The German students had a fantastic week in Dublin and the surrounding area. The first day was spent here in our school where they were given a warm welcome by our deputy Principal Liz O’Brien, followed by a tour of the school and then some team building games. Over the next few days the students took part in some lessons but they also went on a number of trips including Newgrange and Glendalough, they explored Dublin city centre, went on the Viking Splash Tour for a fun tour of the city and they did the cliff walk from Bray to Greystones. Their visit to Dublin was enjoyed very much by all and now our students are looking forward to visiting Würzburg in June 2016.
The Würzburg student exchange programme is in its 6th year and has become an integral part of our school curriculum. The programme gives 7th class St. Kilian’s and LFI students the opportunity to visit the city of Würzburg and to improve their German language skills during a stay in a German host family.
Many thanks to our colleague Sarah O’Donohoe who has taken over the organisation of the Würzburg exchange as of this year.
