Congratulations to the 11th class Concern Debating team who have qualified for the final rounds of the competition on the basis of their points score in the League. 124 teams participated and they are now down to the last 24.
This is a great achievement for our students! They have worked hard and argued with passion and commitment on the various global issues they have been presented with throughout the competition. They will now meet Lucan Community College next week to oppose the motion that The Legacy of Fidel Castro should be celebrated.
Congratulations also to three of our 8th class girls who participated in the UCD Women’s Graduates’ Public Speaking competition in UCD on 4th February 2017. They were wonderful ambassadors for St. Kilian’s and their performances were commended. Participants are given a topic 30 minutes before the completion begins and then they have to write their speeches on the spot. Hannah Shorten delivered a thoughtful speech on the topic of the ideal travelling companion. She argued that it is not who you travel with that is important but the people you meet along the way. Constanta Rata was asked to speak on how essential mobile phones are today. She declared they were not essential but addictive! Maria Angelova-Schweder spoke on how older people can teach us a lot – especially grandparents – and made some lovely and entertaining points to engage the audience. All three girls were presented with certificates by the president of the University Women’s Organisation. Well done!
