From 21st to 24th September 2017, thirteen students and two teachers from our partner school in Brussels (iDSB) came to visit St. Kilian’s for an exciting sports weekend.
Students from St.Kilian’s already had the opportunity twice to experience the hospitality of the iDSB at the so-called Europaspiele in Brussels, a friendly sporting competition between various German Schools Abroad. In return, our partners from Brussels came to experience the world-famous fan and sporting culture of Ireland on a visit to Dublin hosted by us here on the Eurocampus.
The programme included soccer, volleyball, taster sessions in Gaelic Games, Irish Dancing and swimming in the Irish Sea and was greatly enjoyed by all. The Lycée Francais d’Irlande was also involved in some of the activities to make this weekend a truly European experience.
Many thanks to all the parents who supported this weekend and hosted students from Brussels. A very big thank-you also to our Parent Association who was of invaluable help: they provided lunch in the school canteen and also hosted a BBQ on Saturday. Thank you so much to Olivia Scully and Juliette O’Grady for their support.
Here two quotations from Oliver Bierhoff’s address to last year’s Europaspiele in Brussels (together with Jürgen Klinsmann, Oliver managed the German National Team for a number of years after a very successful football career): “During my professional career as a footballer I was lucky to be given the opportunity to play for a while in Austria, France and Italy. I benefited from this experience not only as a sporting person but on a personal level.” “I like the idea that German schools abroad are meeting up for a sporting competition, because sport brings people together.”
