Today, 22nd November, eleven lucky students from 8th class, together with Ms Kavanagh and Mr O’Driscoll are travelling to Germany to attend the “UP and Coming” International Film Festival in Hannover which showcases films made by young filmmakers from all over the world. This event will also play host to the final of the German Schools film competition Europa filmt.
The trip to Germany will start in Berlin where students will see the sights and take in some history of the capital city before travelling to Hannover on Thursday for the film event and then back home via lovely Hamburg on Sunday.
For the Europa filmt competition, St. Kilian’s will be represented this year by two funny and superbly directed films:
- “Donald Trump versus the British King” (starring Olwyn Quill and Lucia Garde) – a hilarious confrontation between two rivals which culminates in an epic battle in the struggle for power (directed and produced by 8th class students of our film club)
- “The last Coke”- Primary School students, hearing of a recent school ban on coca cola, take each other on in a bid to get the last can of coke left in the building with hilarious and somewhat chaotic consequences. Directed by Konrad Leitner (now in 6th class) and starring students from the then 5th class.
We wish all the students travelling to the event a wonderful time and all the participants, especially those 6th and 8th class students who were involved in making a film but couldn’t attend, the very best of luck in the competition.
Interested in getting into film, making a film, watching and talking about films? Come along to Film Club each Tuesday at 1pm in E13. Keep an eye out for posters about the next “Kilian’s” 2017 short film competition.
