Our under 13 boys went to St. Andrew’s looking for a win which would help secure an A league semi-final place.
The Line Up: In goals Daniel Sheerin, left Back Oisin Wynn, right back Michael Brennan, Centre back Mark Donovan and sweeper Rod McCauliffe. In midfield on the left Louis Prehn, centre mid. and Captain Jake Nourse and right mid. Jake Dempsey. Up front on the right Hugh Hartnett, centre forward Jacob Heins and left wing Cian Walley. On the bench Reece Macarulay and Jonas Zimmermann.
From the start our boys tore into St. Andrew’s and had them hemmed in their own half. Jake Nourse was calling the shots and Jake Dempsey was driving down the right. Cian Walley was winning ball and our front three were hassling the St. Andrew’s back four. After 6 minutes Cian won a ball and fed Jacob Heins who went on a mazy run and from the top of the circle he smashed a missile of a shot home to put us 1-0 up. What a start by the boys!
It was end to end and after 17 minutes St. Andrew’s drew level when their right wing got away and scored. St. Andrew’s poured on the pressure and scored again to go 2-1 up. With time running out they won a corner and scored to go 3-1 up at the break.
Early in the second half they scored again to go 4-1 up. Our boys lifted their game and poured forward trying to get back into the game. We were being caught on the break but Daniel Sheeran was brilliant in goals and made some spectacular saves to keep St. Andrew’s at bay. The last 5 minutes we gave our all in search of goals but could not break the St. Andrew’s defence. It was a great effort by the boys and they are awaiting results to see if we qualify for the A or B league semi-finals.
Man of the Match: Two men share the award – Captain fantastic Jake Nourse and Goalkeeper Daniel Sheerin. Both were fantastic on the day.
Goal of the Match: Jacob Heins.
