Wonderful news on the debating front – our 11th class Concern debating team won their quarter final debate against Coláiste Chiarán in Concern Headquarters last night! They successfully opposed the motion that Globalisation is a force for good to a packed house of supporters – parents and students. The team especially appreciated the attendance of last year’s quarter finalists, 12 th class students: Sophie Linnane, Ciara Connolly, Meadhbh Connolly and Lia Taylor Schaffer who gave so generously of their time and encouragement at the debate.
Captain, Leah Fellenz, opened the debate for the opposition by focusing on the inequality of today’s globalised world; Oscar Toomey delivered a strong speech on the economic aspects of the argument; Aisling Burns followed with the environmental impact of globalisation and Isabel Van der Voort concluded by highlighting the human rights abuses attributable to globalisation. The adjudicators commented on the power and passion of their performances and the quality of their arguments.
The semi- final will take place on the 19th April. This is the first time that a St. Kilian’s team has made it this far in this national competition – congratulations!
