To celebrate UNESCO International Mother Language Day, St. Kilian’s is proud to sponsor the Mother Tongues Festival.
Back in January we organised an information evening for parents about Multilingualism. Our speaker was Dr. Francesca LaMorgia who is also the director of Mother Tongues, who are organising this fantastic language festival.
The festival will take place on Saturday 24th February 2018 in OutHouse, 105 Capel St, Rotunda, Dublin 1. It is meant to be a celebration of Ireland’s linguistic diversity, with performances and workshops in many different languages. The artists, performers and language lovers will entertain their audiences in their own mother tongue to show that languages are alive, and they are all around us.
The line-up includes a hands-on science workshop for kids (7-12 years) in German by Cordula Weiss from the Waterford Institute of Technology. It’s called “Cupcake Science” and they are going to have a closer look at the children’s lunch boxes and discover the science behind their favourite food. Places can be booked here. Other workshops for children of all ages are held in Irish, Italian, French, Japanese, Turkish, Indonesian, Chinese, Arabic and many other languages.
For more information and to book a workshop please visit the Mother Tongues Festival website. The Mother Tongues Festival is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and has been awarded the European Year of Cultural Heritage label.
