There was plenty of activity in St. Kilian’s German School on Monday 29th January 2018, the official opening day of the school’s new all-weather soccer pitch and athletic grounds.
The Student Council had come up with a creative fundraising plan to collect money for the Irish Heart Foundation in the run up to the event and, together with the combined efforts of the Kindergarten and Primary School, were able to raise over €850 for this worthy cause.
The fundraiser was done in memory of our late PE teacher, colleague and friend Connell Doris who passed away unexpectedly in service in 2015. The students wanted to name the new sports facility after Mr Doris who had been teaching at St. Kilian’s for over 30 years.
Primary School and Kindergarten took part in various ball exercises on the new pitch during the morning and their teachers showed their skills at a penalty shoot-out. In the afternoon, the whole school gathered around the new pitch to watch senior students play a soccer match against their teachers which ended with a 4-3 win for the teachers.
Our Principal, Alice Lynch, is delighted that “the new facility opens up multiple possibilities in terms of what we can offer through sport and activity to support the school’s health and well-being programme.”
A BIG THANK YOU goes to soccer coaches Al Sugg and Eoin Clarkin and PE teacher Ms Collins for organising and running the events of the day; to Olivia Scully and Juliette O’Grady for providing snacks for our students; to all teachers and students for taking part so enthusiastically and making the fundraiser as well as the day a success.
