During the week from 22nd-26th January 2018, the Student Council embarked on a whole-school fundraising effort for the Irish Heart Foundation in memory of their late PE teacher Connell Doris who passed away unexpectedly in 2015.
The students wanted to name the school’s new astroturf football pitch and athletics ground after Mr Doris so they came up with some fun ideas to get the whole school involved in the fundraising efforts in the run up to the official opening of the pitch on 29th January.
They set up a fundraising challenge between teachers and students which ended in a Teachers vs Students football match on the day of the opening. Whichever team raised more money would get an advantage over the other team, hence helping them win the match – a very competitive initiative which raised over €500 in the end.
Well done to all members of the Student Council for putting in their time and efforts and for seeing the project through. Many thanks to all students, teachers and parents who donated so generously.
