The Cologne Exchange which was initiated by Herr Sundermann and Frau Kayser (Teacher at St. Kilian’s between 2012 and 2017), is now in its second year and on 30th May a group of 18 Class 8 students from St. Kilian’s and the LFI went to stay for one week with partners from the Liebfrauenschule in Köln.
They were accompanied by Herr Sundermann, Ms Hanafin and Ms Malibet and experienced an exciting week filled with various educational and cultural activities which ranged from scaling the heights of the cathedral spire to stomach turning rides in the Phantasialand theme park with some of the group choosing the more leisurely and traditional retro rides instead.
In between they experienced a typical German school day with classes in Latin, Maths and Science as well as a visit to the former West-German capital city of Bonn where they explored the Haus der Geschichte and traced the steps of the Beethoven family. Various Wurst, Confectionary and Ice Cream Refreshments kept everybody in a good mood for most of the stay and will have created some lasting memories.
The teachers would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to Frau Kayser and the Liebfrauenschule for making everybody so welcome and organising this week. We look forward to hosting you and returning your hospitality in September. And yes, no Latin, but we will teach you some Irish instead!
Thank you also to Ms Hanafin and Ms Malibet for their time and good humour and to all the students for representing St. Kilian’s and the LFI so well.
