Six students from Class 11, Joshua McMillan, Shane Murray, Isaac Nugent, Daniel Partridge, Declan Scott, and Moritz von der Lancken, together with their teachers Herr Sundermann and Frau Sieber, will be travelling to Paderborn in Germany on 18th November to participate in an Erasmus Plus Project Meeting with students from the Friedrich-Spee-Gesamtschule in Paderborn, Voru State Upper Secondary School (Voru Gümnaasium) Voru in Estonia and IES Sabina Mora (Roldán, Murcia) from Spain. The overall theme of the project is ‘Freiheit braucht seine Geschichte’ (‘Freedom requires its History’).
The aim is to research national and regional cultures of commemoration, not least wars and its heroes/victims/perpetrators in European countries. For a first meeting in Germany the pupils of the participating schools are presenting short projects on the origins of each country’s national holiday, when it was established, how it is celebrated and its relevance in today’s society at the University of Paderborn.
The project is financed by the European Union with support from Leargas.
