This term the Primary School Sports department is introducing some new activities into the Physical Education programme.
Our 3rd class pupils have the fantastic opportunity to take part in a combined Zumba and Poundfit class with Carla Roberts once a week. The pupils have already completed 3 weeks and all are really enjoying the experience while keeping active as well.
Our 4th class pupils will start their swimming programme in March. We will walk over to UCD, where we have some wonderful swimming instructors ready to work and teach our students. They cater for all levels so every pupil will experience some degree of success in the water and all will be able to swim to some degree by the end of the 8 weeks.
Our 5th class pupils have started a Yoga programme with our Secondary School teacher Donal Earls on a Friday morning. This is a new experience for most of the pupils and they are enjoying learning about body movement and the importance of stretching, all through the art of storytelling. This is an activity that they can practise at home as well!
6th class have started their Safe Cycle programme. They will complete a series of exercises on the school premises and then in week 5 & 6 they will take to the road and learn how to cycle safely. On completion, all the pupils should be competent cyclists and feel confident cycling to and from school and beyond.
Ms Collins and the Primary School sports team are always on the lookout to find exciting ways to keep the children fit and active while having fun at the same time.
