Our budding actors in 2A and 2B had their Shakespearian debut in the Mill Theatre, Dundrum on Monday, December 9th. They had been invited to take part in the Primary School Shakespeare Festival with a number of other schools.
There was a selection of excerpts to choose from: 2A choose Winter from Love’s Labour’s Lost while 2B choose The Witches from Macbeth.
They are challenging texts for any age but the children quickly made them their own. They loved learning background information on Shakespeare, Elizabethan times and how the English we speak has changed over the centuries. They relished the unfamiliar yet wonderful vocabulary and the rhyme and rhythm of the poetry.
Both classes gave outstanding performances on the day and did St. Kilian’s proud. They were also treated to some middle age magic from a courtly jester and a sword fighting demonstration.
A great time was had by all.
