These were some of the exciting topics presented by Martin Schäuble during yesterday’s reading from his latest book “The Scanned” (“Die Gescannten”) in which he writes – under the pseudonym Robert M. Sonntag – of a digitised world in 2048. In this fictional world people and especially their thoughts are controlled and influenced by the giant corporation “Ultranetz” by means of the so-called “Thinker”. The topic sparked a lot of interest and was very well received by our 8th class pupils.
Martin Schäuble read various sections from the novel and the students were asked for their thoughts and could direct questions at the author. Do you believe that this could actually become reality? How does the “Thinker” charge its battery? How much do you earn as an author? These were just a few of the many questions asked. There was a lively exchange between the author and the students during and after the reading.
Many thanks to Martin Schäuble for this exciting and fascinating insight into a world that is perhaps not too different from what we might be facing into in future years!
