Our Concern debating team this year consists of a group of eight students from Transition Year who are all keen to gain experience in debating. The team of Emily (captain), Isabel, Ali and Eva were awarded a draw against Loreto Abbey Dalkey in the first round of debates. In their second debate, Emily, Isabel, Cai and Eva defeated the Teresian School by successfully arguing that Nuclear power is not essential for a clean energy future. In their next debate, Emily, Sophie, Callum and Eva will meet Our Lady’s Grove to debate whether the EU needs an army. We wish them well and congratulate them on their performances to date.
In the Leinster Senior Cycle Debates we have two teams through to the second round: Sophie and Ali from Transition Year and Una and Declan from 11th class. Both teams put in very impressive performances!
In the Junior University Debates three teams entered from 9th class and put in strong performances at the beginning of the league: Edward and Felix, Thomas and Dylan, Lea and Madeleine. We wish them well in their next round of debates in the next few weeks.
Congratulations also to Cai Bocus of Transition Year who was chosen by Rotary to proceed to the next round of their Young Leaders competition. We wish him every success in the next round.
