On Tuesday 27th August 2019 over fifty excited 1st class children arrived at St. Kilian’s with their Schultüte (“school cone”): giant cardboard cones which are decorated by the pupils themselves and filled with treats and presents by their parents. Schultüten are a lovely tradition in Germany and other countries to celebrate the beginning of a child’s time in school (Junior and Senior Infants are part of Kindergarten in the German educational system).
After a short address by the Head of Primary School, Sarah Finnegan, and an initial induction with their class teachers, the pupils and their parents attended the First Class Picnic, an event kindly organised each year by our Parents’ Association to enable 1st class pupils and parents to get to know each other in an informal setting. We were blessed with sunshine this year so the picnic could take place outdoors.
We would like to wish our 1st class pupils all the best for their time at St. Kilian’s.
