Our debating teams are as active as ever this school year, despite the fact that all debating competitions have moved to an online format. Below is an update on the achievements to date:
Leinster Senior Debates
Well done to the three St. Kilian’s teams who have taken part in the first three rounds of the UCD Leinster Debating competition. They have debated motions on politics, gap year and school subjects. The three teams are Dylan McGowan & Thomas O’Grady, Una Deegan & Michael D’Arcy and Sophie D’Arcy and Lucie Von Metzradt. They’ll find out if they’ve made it through to the next round shortly!
Rotary Dublin
Last month Dylan McGowan, Michael D’Arcy, Isabel Fellenz & Eva Carthy all took part in the Rotary Dublin Youth Leadership Interviews. Each student was interviewed (via zoom) by 2 members of Rotary Dublin. After some tough deliberating Isabel Fellenz has been chosen to move forward to the next round. She will be representing the school at the next stage of the competition, due to take place in January.
Junior Debates
This year we have had two students from 8th Class, Konstantin Shulga & Daniel Kominski, who have been representing the school at the UCD Junior Debating Competition. They have tackled motions on national elections and a four-day working week.
Concern Debating
The annual Concern debating competition has been in full swing. Emily Moriarty, Eva Carthy, Cai Bocus & Isabel Fellenz have successful proposed motions on the WHO’s response to Covid 19 and Why billionaires should no longer exist. They are waiting to hear about the 3rd round of the competition.
Well done to all involved for their hard work and ability to adapt to digital debates!
