There were many exciting activities taking place in St. Kilian’s German School Dublin during this year’s national Science Week from the 7th to 14th of November. All our students from Kindergarten up to Secondary School have turned into big scientist and were exploring scientific concepts and conducting wonderful experiments.
Our 6th class Primary School pupils were busy building circuits using every day material and even tried lemons and potatoes to turn on the LED light. Our 4th class pupils investigated renewable energy in 4th Class and created windmills of different shapes and sizes and discussed also other forms of how they can generate green power.
This year’s Science Week focussed on Creating the Future and the 7th and 8th class students were discussing the impact and changes to our lives because of COVID, what changes they would like to keep going forward and what other positive changes or opportunities we should look into as a school, community and country.
During the national Science Week, our TY students got also to present their projects for judging by school management they have been working on during the first term of school. The students worked in groups up to three on a project of their choice based on this year’s topic.
SciFest is a national STEM fair for schools. Established in 2006, the SciFest programme consists of a series of one-day STEM fairs for second-level students. The aim of the programme is to encourage an interest in, and love of, the STEM subjects. SciFest@School is where second-level schools host their own in-house STEM fair. The winners of the school level then go on to compete at the next level – SciFest@College.
The winners of our this year’s TY Scifest@School will be announced on December 9th. The winners will then progress to the next level, SciFest@College, which will take place in the new year. Best of luck!
