We are five weeks into the second school term and everyone has settled – once again – into a remote learning routine. While all the subject teaching continues through TEAMS, our primary school teachers also ensured that the children get to enjoy some of their fun activities as well – below are some projects and events the pupils could take part in over the past weeks:
Carnival – Apart from our virtual parade Frau Thielemans made sure that all the children were able to indulge in singing and dancing – proving once again that the screen is no obstacle in the face of a determined teacher. The usual songs rang around the homes of our children and, naturally, the chicken dance was as popular as ever. Watch our virtual celebration by clicking the picture below.
Story Time and Philosophy – The Story Time session with Mr. Mansfield proved to be a popular treat for the children in Kindergarten and Vorschule. Neither the internet nor a screen could contain his booming voice and the children were delighted. He also entertained children from 1st to 3rd class with stories and had children in classes 4 to 6 scratching their heads as he posed philosophical questions for them to ponder.
Safer Internet Day – St. Kilian’s joined schools Europe-wide to celebrate Safer Internet Day – a day for promoting a safer and better internet for all users and most especially children. During the week of February 8th, the children participated in age-appropriate discussions and activities around staying safe whilst online and received advice on using the internet in all its guises (social media etc.) in a manner that is respectful to all. They had an opportunity to participate in colouring or poster competitions around the theme Together for a Better Internet and the winners will be announced after the mid-term break. Parents and children enjoyed the screen-free activities put together for the occasion.
