On Thursday 13th October we celebrated 50 successful Sprachdiplom candidates of 2022. We were delighted to welcome Mr Robert Henneberg, Cultural Attaché at the German Embassy, as guest of honour to the celebration ceremony. In their speeches, Mr Henneberg and Ms Frauke Josch congratulated all candidates on their fantastic achievement and reminded us again of the importance of Learning German and other foreign languages. Thanks also to Mara Montgomery and Leon Ryan from 10th Class who shared their personal experiences about learning German and the Deutsches Sprachdiplom. This year we had 26 students who were awarded the DSD I and in total 24 students received the DSD II Sprachdiplom certificate. Congratulations once again and Thank you to Ms Josch, Head of the German Department, for organising, to our Primary School Choir led by Ms Thielemans and to Kira Jahnke for their musical contributions and to everyone involved.
The Deutsches Sprachdiplom exams are conducted in two levels A2/B1 or B2/C1 and are offered by the Kultusministerkonferenz (Education Ministers Conference) in Germany. The DSD language certificate is a programme running since 1973 aimed at the improvement of the knowledge of the German language and culture in schools worldwide. In addition to the Junior Certificate and the Leaving Certificate, the DSD language diploma examinations are also an integral component of the school’s curriculum at St. Kilian’s German School Dublin.
