Greetings from Spain. 7 students from 11th Class travelled to Murcia last week, 28th of March -1st of April 2022, to attend a meeting as part of the Erasmus+ Project ‘Freedom needs its history’.
The students have been welcomed by the teachers and students of IES Sabina Mora Roldan and have also been greeted by the Lord Mayor who presented them the regional flag of Torre Pacheco.
The following days were packed with different activities and presentations. Together with students from Spain, Germany and Estonia, they got to learn about the victims of the civil war and the problem of commemoration that still persists today. They enjoyed a city tour through Murcia and a trip to the Valley Perdido and also took part in a city rally. Thank you to IES Sabina Mora Roldan for the hospitality. Everyone had a fantastic time and made many great memories. We are looking forward to welcoming the participating students in Dublin end of April.
The Erasmus+ Project ‘Freedom needs its history’ has been initiated by Friedrich-Spee-Gesamtschule in September 2019 and involves in total four schools from different corners of Europe: Germany, Estonia, Ireland and Spain.
The aim of the project is to research and to understand national and regional cultures of commemorating historical events, especially wars and their heroes/victims/perpetrators. The project includes four Mobilities which means that all participating students visit each of the other three participating schools over the course of three years and learn about interesting historical events that feed into the overall project.
Thank you to Mr Herr Sundermann for his efforts he has invested into this Project over the last 3 year and for continuing to make it possible for pupils to participate in the exchange.
