October 3rd is the Day of German Unity. 33 years ago something happened that many had been longing for but nobody considered possible:
The Berlin Wall fell, divided Germany was reunited and people and families, who had been divided, came together again. All of this took place as a result of peaceful protests and a non-violent revolution.
What are the lessons learnt from this?
– If everybody stands up for the good, we can achieve a lot.
– We can achieve a lot through the power of words.
– Behind strong words there is often a strong idea and nothing is stronger than an idea whose time has come.
This day has a message for all of us:
Dreams can come true and together we can make things change to the good.
The students in all classes commemorated the significance of the fall of the Berlin Wall today and our youngest children in the Kindergarten even reconstructed the Wall using Giant Lego blocks, which luckily only lasted for a moment before the children brought it down again. A ‘Thank you’ goes to the Parents’ Association for treating us to some fresh coffee in the morning and to Ms O’Donohoe to some delicious cake during lunch break.
Happy German Unity Day!
