St. Kilian’s German School has been running a very successful exchange programme with the Immanuel-Kant Gymnasium in Hamburg, Germany, since 1987.
Every year about 20 Irish Transition Year students from St. Kilian’s participate in a 3-week exchange programme. As part of their exchange they complete two weeks of work experience in placements provided by the Rotary Club in Hamburg.
Because there was more interest from the German side, we are still looking for host families for some German students from Sunday, 1.10. – Friday, 20.10.2023. They will go to school on one day, followed by trips to the city centre, Glendalough and the West of Ireland.
During their stay they will be also taking part in a 2-week work experience.
This would be a great opportunity to have a native German speaker in the house and to arrange a private visit to Hamburg for the Irish student, if wanted.
The German students will be visiting us in October and we are also looking for work placements in all areas of business.
The students’ age is usually 15 years and their occupation in a work placement go in coherence with the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act 1996according to which children aged 14 and 15 may be employed as part of an approved work experience or educational programme where the work is not harmful to their health, safety or development.
According to the law, they may do up to 8 hours a day light work in school term time. Part-time placements would also be ok.
This year’s dates for the work experience are
Thursday, 5.10. to Wednesday, 18.10. 2023
If you can offer a placement or have any further questions please contact
Sarah Niederpruem at sarah.niederpruem@kilians.com.
